I am driven by my passion for colour and texture, particularly from observing nature and interesting surfaces or shapes.

Colour psychology is important to me, so specific hues are carefully blended through pigments, dye and print.

Texture is integrated into my soft pieces with stitch, knit, frayed edges and needle felting. Combining these techniques in various layers creates a tactile and organic cloth that is more of a 3D narrative, somewhere between representation and abstraction.

As a printmaker I particularly enjoy screen-printing, mono printing, lino cut, wood cut and wood engraving. I am also exploring cold wax oil painting and oil pastels on papers and canvas.

I enjoy responding to exhibition themes, specific commission briefs, collboration, teaching workshops and managing longer- term project with groups.

Please contact me about future ideas or projects.

Also a colour consultant, I offer personal, business and artist consultations and colour workshops.

"A very fine original piece, beautifully made. It was designed for (and fits perfectly) its setting."

Thank you email

"Dear Maria,

I am writing on behalf of BDEG to thank you for the wonderful talk you gave to us last Thursday. Very informative and lots of lovely samples to touch. I think all of us came away buzzing with ideas.

Thank you again, and hopefully some of us will be able to get to your studio during your open days.

Best wishes

Elaine"

Extract from thank you letter:

'Dear Maria,

I would like to thank you for managing the RSPB's project to embellish our explorer bags. It was really fantastic to have someone at the college driving the project forward, inspiring the students and insisting on high standards.

Thank you for responding so thoroughly to the children's feedback on the design boards and working with us so closely to keep the project running on time.

We are extremely pleased with the final product which fits the brief very well and will help us to engage more young people at our Sandwell Valley reserve.

Thank you once again for a thoroughly professional and enjoyable approach. I hope we can work together again in the future.'

'Maria's body of work was outstanding. There was ample evidence of sustained research and development of both ideas and processes, and her love for the subject matter shone through. Her textile approaches interpreted the qualities of the Swedish forests and the life within them, with both sensitivity and strength. It is always difficult to select a 'winner' from amongst so many graduates, from so many colleges, all of whom exhibit work of a high calibre. This is when the WOW factor comes into play, and Maria had it in spades!!'

'During an exhibition hosted at Forge 2 Maria was our point of contact for the rest of the group.  We were not only impressed with Maria’s work (she was selected to exhibit in the gallery after the exhibition) we also found her to be well organised and professional in every other way too.

Thank you Maria'
